Twilight Sparkle My Little Pony FiM Sculpture by Blackout-Comix Twilight Sparkle My Little Pony FiM Sculpture by Blackout-Comix
Today I present Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. This one took longer than expected, but was totally worth it. Learned a lot and hope to apply the lessons learned on future sculpts.

Any critiques, helpful tips, or pleasant chatter is always welcome.

She is 4 inches tall and made from Fimo sculpting clay.

For commission information please see my journal.

Thank you for looking.

4in. Twilight Sparkle that is sitting upright. You know, hind legs flat while the front is straight. You know, that kinda way.

Thank you. :D

Sorry, but no it isn't for sale. I no longer have any of the sculptures you see in my gallery. They've all been sold or given away. The only one I still have is the in-progress Celestia I'm working on.

I would advise you to look through my six part tutorial in my gallery to answer all the basic questions. The techniques used for Twilight would be basically the same as the Celestia. If you still have questions after reading that, then I'd be more than happy to provide additional advice. Most questions I get are found there with pictures included. :)

I would also need to know what experience you have and what types of clay you use to give the best advice I can.

Best wishes. :D

thankyou very much for your help :)
ive made a few models before, but i havent picked up a regular technique to use, and i dont know what size is the best to create...none of them come with the outcome i wish, and seeing as i dont always have large amounts of time in my hands, i dont know how much attention it needs?

sorry, i have so much to ask and im probably making noooo sense...ive made a few models, but non are what i expected them to be, they were without the wire framing, does it really help improve the quality?

The wire frame only really helps for big sculpts. I personnly don't use them for small sculpts. What really made a big difference for me was when I switched to Fimo clay. That clay can be rebaked again and again. I could make small additions, sand the clay, bake it, and make more changes. Being able to bake the clay, make changes, and rebake it is what allows me to make the sculpts I do. I didn't notice a change in my sculpting until I switched clays.

Can you tell what's wrong with them? Why are they not what you expected them to be?

I am currently working on commissions, but when they are done I'll be making some to sell, but that will take quite awhile as I have many private sculpts for friends and family to do inbetween. After my commissions are done, I not planned on doing any more commssions, but will still do them for the right price. Please send me a note with what you are looking for and approximately what budget you have for it. Thank you.

This is super amazing! The only suggestion I have is that maybe you could give the eyes a bit more definition. The way I do it is by making small dips were the eyes will go (like making eye sockets) and rolling up little clay bits for the eyeballs. It just helps make the sculpture more believable. But other than that, this pony sculpture is the best one I've seen. :)

The reason I don't is that while it may make the sculpture more believable, it detracts from the show accuracy of the figure. The eyes of the ponies on the show are flat and lack 3-D definition. By only painting them, I come much closer to achieving the look from the show than if I sculpted the eyes.

Aah, I see. In that sense, you have still done an amazing job on these sculptures. Especially on the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
